The Hampshire Cricket Society

The Hampshire Cricket Society was formed in Basingstoke in 1975. Its aim is to provide a forum, particularly in the winter months, for all those interested in cricket.

The Society's Patrons are John Woodcock, Frank Bailey and Shaun Udal. Members are drawn from all over Hampshire and beyond e.g. Australia and Hong Kong. Between September and April there are eight meetings each with a guest speaker. Five meetings are held at The Rose Bowl, Southampton and three at the Test Valley Golf Club, Basingstoke. The Annual Dinner follows the December meeting at The Rose Bowl.

The meetings provide an opportunity to hear and speak with many who are well known in the cricket world. The policy is to invite speakers from all aspects of cricket including players, umpires, authors, administrators, statisticians and others. The distinguished list of past speakers includes: nine Hampshire Captains, Godfrey Evans, Derek Randall, Derek Underwood, Graham Gooch, John Arlott, Donald Woods and Lord McLaurin. An informative newsletter is produced for each meeting and posted to members who are unable to attend. At the end of each cricket season, members vote for the "Hampshire Player of the Year". The chosen player is invited to a meeting and presented with an engraved glass bowl. Their name is also added to an Honours Board which is displayed at The Rose Bowl.
